Get ready, Keys locals and visitors — JAWS is coming to Marathon for its 50th Anniversary Float-In Movie Event of the Season!

On October 11th, with the help of the City of Marathon, The Lagoon on Grassy Key will transform into an open-water movie theater for a night of thrills, community, and classic cinema under the stars.

Whether you’re a JAWS superfan, a film buff, or just love the idea of floating under the Florida Keys stars with friends and a good scare — this event is for you.

Float-In Movie Details

Date: Saturday, October 11th

Location: The Lagoon on Grassy Key, 59300 Overseas Highway, Marathon, FL

Movie: JAWS — 50th Anniversary Screening

Time: Lagoon opens at 10am, The Tiki Seekers Live Music 12-3pm, Movie Doors Open 5pm, Sunset 7pm

What to Bring: Float, PFD (personal flotation device), chair, towel, friends, and a sense of adventure!

Extras: Bongos Botanical Beer Garden will be open with food & drink specials!

The Lagoon on Grassy Key: From Hidden Gem to Community Treasure

Before it became Marathon’s raddest gathering place for family and friends, The Lagoon on Grassy Key began life as a limestone quarry. Over time, the quarry naturally evolved into a tidal lagoon, later repurposed as a fish farm and even a site for aquatic research before eventually being reimagined as a wakeboarding park.

Today, thanks to the vision of owner Matthew Sexton, this historic space has been transformed into a vibrant, eco-friendly destination for community events, watersports, and local celebrations. The Lagoon now hosts everything from Rhum Runner Aquapark birthday parties, to hosting wakeboard competitions, accompanied with live music weekends — always staying true to the Keys’ values of sustainability, hospitality, and ocean-life connection.

This JAWS screening marks another exciting chapter: the first community float-in movie event at The Lagoon! A huge thank-you to the City of Marathon for helping make this unique event possible.
